GIS derived synthetic rating curves and HAND model to support on-the-fly flood mapping

چکیده

Abstract A timely and cost-effective method of creating inundation maps could assist first responders in allocating resources personnel the event a flood or preparation future disaster. The Height Above Nearest Drainage (HAND) model be implemented into an on-the-fly mapping application for Canada-wide service. HAND requires water level (m) data inputs while many sources hydrological Canada only provide discharge (m 3 /sec) data. Synthetic rating curves (SRCs), created using river geometry/characteristics Manning’s formula, utilized to approximate given input. challenge with SRCs includes representing how multiple different land covers will slow impact flow due texture bulky features (i.e., smooth asphalt versus rocky channel); this relates roughness coefficient ( n ). In our study, two methods values were experimented (a weighted minimum-median method) compared fixed method. custom ArcGIS tool, Canadian Estimator Ratings Curves Discharge (CERC-HAND-D), was developed create all three methods. Control sourced from gauge stations across form curves. Results indicate that areas medium medium–high gradients (S > 0.002 m/m) reaches under 5 km, CERC-HAND-D tool creates more accurate (NRMSE = 3.7–8.8%, Percent Bias ?7.8%—9.4%), being preferred

Simplified Flood Inundation Mapping Based On Flood Elevation-Discharge Rating Curves Using Satellite Images in Gauged Watersheds

This study suggests an approach to obtain flood extent boundaries using spatial analysis based on Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper imageries and the digital elevation model. The suggested approach firstly extracts the flood inundation areas using the ISODATA image-processing algorithm from four Landsat 5TM imageries. Then, the ground elevations at the intersections of the extracted flood extent bounda...

GIS and Flood Inundation Model-Based

Abstract: This paper presents the methodology and procedure for flood risk assessment using GIS and flood inundation model (FIM) based on the “micro-zonation concept” in which an entire floodplain considered is divided into numerous unit areas (meshes or grids). In this study, Shinkawa-river floodplain around Nagoya City of Aichi Prefecture in Japan an urbanized lowland area, which was greatly ...

willingness to communicate in the iranian context: language learning orientation and social support

why some learners are willing to communicate in english, concurrently others are not, has been an intensive investigation in l2 education. willingness to communicate (wtc) proposed as initiating to communicate while given a choice has recently played a crucial role in l2 learning. it was hypothesized that wtc would be associated with language learning orientations (llos) as well as social suppo...

the effect of lexical inferencing and concept mapping on the vocabulary retention among iranian intermediate efl learners

this study was an attempt to investigate and compare the effect of lexical inferencing and concept mapping on developing vocabulary retention of iranian language learners. sixty homogeneous students from different intact classes who were being taught as intermediate learners in sokhan english institute participated in this study. they were in different classes. a teacher made test as a pre-test...
